A 41-year-old deputy with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office was recently arrested by San Jose police on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material; he has been placed on administrative leave, and the case remains under investigation.
According to NBC Bay Area, San Jose police reported that shortly after 10 a.m. on the 12th, a woman contacted authorities to report the discovery of suspected child sexual abuse material at a residence in San Jose. Police immediately launched an investigation and identified the suspect as Roy Chen, a 41-year-old deputy with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for Chen’s San Jose home and arrested him later that day in Cupertino. Chen was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific nature or quantity of the seized material, nor have they indicated whether other potential victims are involved. The San Jose Police Department is continuing the investigation.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Monday that Chen has been placed on administrative leave and that an internal investigation is underway. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brooks Jarosz stated that the allegations are “extremely serious,” but emphasized that authorities must respect the integrity of the investigative process and will not draw conclusions until the facts are fully established.
Police stated that the case remains under investigation; Roy Chen currently faces only a charge of alleged possession of child sexual abuse material, and whether additional criminal charges will be filed depends on the outcome of the investigation and judicial proceedings.
